U. S.-produced mattresses and stationary foundations will experience a third straight year of unit and dollar declines this year, a new forecast says.

The November Mattress Industry Forecast, issued by the International Sleep Products Assn., calls for a 2.5% decline in the dollar value of U.S.-produced mattresses and stationary foundations in 2019, with a 5.5% unit decline that year.

Looking at the total mattress market in 2019, the ISPA forecast calls for a 2% decline in dollars and a 3.5% decline in units.

ISPA said the forecast declines in 2019 are due in part to “the slowdown in economic growth” and “softness in the housing market in 2019.”
